Over the years I have come to realize that the reason we make so many inept, ill-judged and frankly stupid decisions about energy is that we simply don't know what we're talking about. Politicians, journalists, academics, analysts and planners routinely use language and concepts that drastically misrepresent what we want from energy, obscuring our best options and opportunities.
